PLANET MODELS : Opel Blitz T. Stofftankwagen

This is the second vehicle Planet have created by utilising parts from the old Esci Opel Blitz and very well done it is too. It is good to see resin model Manufacturers breath new life into old mould and now it looks as though pretty soon Italeri will be re-releasing the original too.

PARTS
The kit is cast in Planets usual strong and crisp resin with a good to high level of detail. As is also usual excess resin plugs are present and I found one or two of them pretty difficult to remove without damage to parts or detail (cab roof, lower chassis and exhaust). This was the most time comsuming part of the whole kit.

This is an excellent etched set although I do feel some parts are better in a 3D format.

ETCHED BRASS
This is a lovely little set with practically complete detailing for the inside of the drivers cab, I'm really impressed with the etched brass Planet supply with their kits and feel it really lifts a finished model.

CONSTRUCTION
Well I'm only half way through this one but after all the parts were cleaned it has went together pretty smoothly although I will need to do a little filling here and there and also a little bit of detail is missing (pump) from the left hand side but you can choose to leave this off if you wish. If like me you intend to add as much as possible then a bit of reference material will be required *

PACKAGING
The kit comes in Planets usual sturdy white cardboard box with a picture of the subject on the front. Instructions are also included and are in joint Czech, English and German with a little bit of history on the vehicle included too. No decals are present so it's into the spares box again.

CONCLUSION
This is a really nice kit and fun to put together I'm really happy with the amount of A4/V2 support vehicles Planet have tackled and this is yet another cracker. To me this is what resin kits are all about, unusual and interesting subjects that would probably never be produced in plastic. I would definately recommend this kit to other modellers and it will make an interesting addition to any small scale collection either as part of a diorama or on its own.

I picked my kit up from Plastic Hobby Kits s.r.o. Hrnciarska, Kosice, Slovak Republic

*The best reference I found for this vehicle is the Operation Backfire Report, but there is some excellent images of a 1/35 Scale T-Stofftankwagen by Albert Koopman at the A4/V2 resource site.
