Meiler Wagen from Planet Models

PLANET MODELS : MEILER WAGEN

Yet another interesting vehicles from Planets A4/V2 related subjects with the potential to build into a nice model.

As you will have already guessed the parts I have posted of this kit are already under construction. I'm sorry but I started building this one as soon as I got it home.

PARTS
There are a lot of parts to this kit cast in Planets usual strong, crisp resin with a lot of nice detail and very little flash present. Most of the excess resin plugs were straight forward to remove, however a large casting cover was present over the upper frame in such a way that it was very difficult to remove and caused inevitable damage to detail leaving a few areas to be repaired or replaced later.

CONSTRUCTION
After cleaning the parts most of the construction was fairly straight forward but I did encounter a few problems when working on the lower frame. As with all Planets kits there are never any attachments points and I found that a good bit of filler was needed and the odd bit of scrath building too. There are 1 or 2 items missing from this kit to finish it of: The Hydraulic Valve gear is missing from the right side and another small ladder is missing from the left as is a second servicing platform, also the 2 socket boxes next to the motor box are also not included so a good source of reference is important.*
A lovely little Etched Brass detail set is included and this is definately a plus in this models favour.

PACKAGING
The kit comes in Planets usual sturdy white cardboard box with a picture of the subject on the front. Instructions are also included and are in joint Czech, English and German with a little bit of history included too. No markings are included and known are needed.

OVERALL IMPRESSIONS
A good deal of work is neccessary to complete this kit but the final result is very effective. I admit I have enjoyed getting stuck into it and found the subject matter very interesting but I can also see that other modellers could loose interest.
It is possible to finish this one out of the box but with a bit of research and work it is possible to take it to a higher level.

CONCLUSION
I would recommend this to fellow modellers looking for an interesting project with time to spare or with a definate interest in the A4/V2 missile programme.

However this is Definately not a kit for the beginner or someone looking to try working with resin for the first time as it may put you off resin for life.
