Planet Models from Czech Republic

Planet Models CMK, Magistru 18, Praha 140 00, Czech Republic: Producer of Resin 1/72 scale models.

Most of their kits are subjects from the World War II period with many very interesting items. They do a good selection of items relating to the A4/V2 Missile Programme and also a few post war items that i've heard are very nice too.

Planet have utilised many exisiting kits that are on the market today and reshaped them to make interesting variants for modellers (Hasagawa tiger, Esci Opel Blitz, Esci Panther) but also produce completely new moulds of there own. (The fore mentioned have now become outdated by the Revell Tigers)

Parts
The kits are cast in a sturdy cream or light grey resin with good, crisp but at times simple detail and could do with a bit of extra work. There are many casting blocks to remove similar to Modelkrak or Extratech and this can be pretty tricky at times and occassionally there is a danger of damage to fine detail. (razor saw and various files are essential)

Construction
Construction of most of the kits are fairly straight forward when all the parts are clean but 1 or 2 will definately require a bit more time and reference material, the tracks supplied with some vehicles are of a very poor black vinyl, plastic quality and are almost impossible to work with. (This is a major drawback with Planet Kits)
Most models have a nice etched brass detail set included.

Packaging: All the kits come in a very sturdy white cardboard box and very good instruction sheets are included in English/Czech/German text with a little history of the vehicle. (No decals are included)

Conclusion: I have a soft spot for the Planet range as they are the first resin kits I cut my teeth on, other than the tracks and the problems I had with the Planet Meiller Wagen I really enjoyed the kits I have built (please refer to review above). There are a good amount of really nice kits amoungst this range (the Geschutz 33 is lan exceptional kit) and a large scope for detailing in others so if your looking for a challenge give some of them a try but they are definately not for beginners to modelling or a first try at resin kits.

It has been announced that Planet are finally releasing some new kits and they sound very exciting Kubelblitz, Bergpanzer IV as well as others, hopefully Planet will have utilised the new Revell kits and also will be supplying better tracks!
